We all want to look good. If someone says otherwise, they’re lying.

Yet most of us don’t want to break the bank doing so. We don’t want to put ourselves through expensive surgical procedures such as facelifts. We’re not into microneedling where blood is involved. All we want is a simple anti-aging skin cream or a simple anti-aging skin care system we can implement in our daily lives to take care of our skin.

Your Skin: The Largest Organ in the Body

We all know we need to take care of ourselves physically — nutrition, exercise, limiting revelry. We count calories. We visit the gym 3-4 times a week. We only drink alcohol once a week. But how many of us take the time to care for our skin? And when we do, it’s often due to a crazy diagnosis such as skin cancer, sun spots, wrinkles, sagging skin or eczema.

As the largest organ in our body, the skin has a lot to do everyday! It’s the first line of defense in the protection of everything beneath it: tissues, tendons, orgas, ligaments, and bones. It blocks viruses and microbes bent on contaminating our bodies. It regulates our body temperatures, which is another protection of our organs. It’s the most important barrier to all the bad things floating around and impacting us.

The surface of our skin takes a beating day-in and day-out. Weather takes the greatest toll. In terms of aging, it’s the sun that causes the greatest damage. The sun’s rays cause wrinkles and lines. The sun dries out our skin, which needs moisture in order to stretch. The cold shrinks our exposed skin cells as they try to protect themselves, effectively tightening our skin and causing redness or cracking.

The heat causes us to sweat, using up precious moisture our skin needs to maintain elasticity. The wind also strips us of moisture in the skin. The rain is the only weather element that is the skin’s friend. People who live in damp climates with little sun (think England) have beautiful, plump skin. The skin retains more moisture and is less damaged by the sun. Prolonged extreme weather exposure kills skin cells, causing itchiness, flakiness, and cracking. It’s something we need to keep in mind as we go about our busy days.

Another environmental factor that affects the skin is pollution, which can cause brown spots and wrinkles due to the presence of free radicals, which are unstable atoms that can damage cells.

On top of all this is aging. As we age, skin loses elastic tissue (elastin and collagen), causing sagging skin. Skin becomes more transparent as we age as the top layer of skin, the epidermis, thins. Skin becomes more fragile and rough as we age. We lose subcutaneous tissue, which is the fatty tissue between the skin and muscles. And the skin is more easily bruised as our blood vessel walls thin.

WHAT CAN I DO TO KEEP MY SKIN HEALTHY?

Overwhelming, right? The above factors we can’t control. Let’s focus on the factors we can control — our lifestyle choices.

Diet.

We are what we eat. As cliche as this is, it holds true. A diet rich in water, fruits, vegetables, and fish is vital to keeping our skin healthy. Also, foods rich in antioxidant properties, which have protective benefits. These include yellow and orange fruits and vegetables (think carrots and apricots), blueberries, green leafy vegetables (think spinach), tomatoes, peas, beans and lentils, fish rich in Omega oils, and nuts. Sweets and alcohol are harsh on the body and lead to obesity, which stretches the skin. Refined sugar has been shown to age skin prematurely as sugar reacts with our cells and collagen and elastin is broken down.

Stress.

Stress causes acne outbreaks and excess sweat. Utilize exercise to mitigate the effects of stress.

Sleep.

Our bodies heal while we’re sleeping. Enough sleep gives our skin the time it needs to regenerate, absorb water from the day, and just rest from the bombardment of chemicals from the environment.

Smoking.

Stop now if you smoke. You’re ingesting harmful free radicals, damaging not only your skin, but also the rest of your body.

Harsh skin care products.

Skin tissue is mildly acidic by nature so aggressive cleansers and moisturizing products with a high alkaline content overtax the skin’s natural neutralising capability, damaging cell structure and impairing the barrier function of the skin’s surface. This causes dry skin and increases the risk of skin conditions developing such as rosacea. It also accelerates the signs of aging.

Personal care.

We here at Tru Energy believe this area is where we can make the greatest impact and influence how our skin ultimately looks. Every one of our products (from Intensely Anti-Aging Facial Serum to our Energy-Optimizing Application Wand), was designed to work with your body’s natural processes and enhance them, slowing the degenerative process down and leaving us looking younger longer. Moisturizing your skin twice daily, limiting showers, drinking water, and exfoliating are key to the long-term care of your aging skin.

CARE TIPS FOR YOUR AGING SKIN

At Tru Energy, we believe the little things matter. A drop of water forms a cloud. This water drop falls from the cloud and runs into a stream. This stream plunges off a cliff, creating one of the most spectacular sights offered by nature: a waterfall. All from one drop.

The power of moisturizing your skin daily has the cumulative effect of a drop of water–and can be just as beautiful. We’ve put together a powerful, all-natural facelift system that includes a daily scrub and cleanser (Deep Purifying Facial Scrub and Gentle Clarifying Facial Cleanser), a serum for after cleansing (Intensely Anti-Aging Facial Serum), and of course the moisturizer and anti-aging skin cream that is the captain of the ship — one for the morning (Protective Therapeutic Daytime Treatment), and one for before bed (Restorative Nourishing Overnight Treatment). Follow all this up with one of our (Energy-Optimizing Wands).

At Tru Energy, we believe this complete system, done in 5 minutes in the morning and night, is all you need to revitalize your skin, erase signs of aging such as wrinkles and lines, improve your tone and texture, erase sagging, and minimize brown spots.

Our body is amazing. Its power to heal, its power to grow and change, its power to adapt under any condition, and its power to accomplish feats unimaginable is a gift. At Tru Energy, we believe working in conjunction with nature instead of trying to artificially alter it leads to the best skin care results. When we embrace our bodies, they will embrace us.
